To impress readers of Market Research reports, consumers are often classified in terms of generations named as Millennials, Gen X & Baby Boomers. This is a predominantly American classification, but is occasionally used in other countries as well.
Millennials are people born during mid 80’s and are so named because they reached adulthood around the time of the change of millennium.
Gen X are people born during mid 60’s to 80’s and are now aged between 31 – 50 years. The name is taken from the title of a book by Douglas Coupland, which is known as the signature portrayal of the culture of that time.
Baby Boomers are people born pre 1960’s and are now aged over 50 years. The US saw a marked increase in their birth-rate after the second world war (1939-1945) and the generation that then came into being is called the Baby Boomer generation.
