If you're hiring a mystery shopping company in India, these are the nine worth calling: Channelplay (that's us), FloorWalk, TopHawks, CTRL Service, HS Brands, BARE International, Ipsos, Market Xcel and Netrika. They come in three kinds: audit specialists, research groups that run mystery shopping next to other studies, and a risk firm that offers it as an integrity check.
All nine can send a shopper into your store and bring back a score. Picking between them comes down to one question: what happens after the report? A store that fails on planogram, hygiene or promoter readiness still has to be fixed, then checked again, and seven of the nine list no service that does the fixing.

1. Channelplay
We're a retail execution company, and mystery shopping and retail audits are one of our five practices. Our network of 25,000+ vetted evaluators covers 1,200+ cities, tier 2 and tier 3 towns included, and our programmes have audited more than 2.5 lakh stores for 135 clients.
An audit can be a store visit, a phone call or a digital journey, covert or declared, recurring or for one campaign. It checks planogram, display and POSM visibility, plus branding, hygiene, promoter readiness and demo units. We record each visit and its photos in 1Channel, our field app, geo-tagged and with audio or video where it matters, and we review every submission before it reaches your dashboard. Field audits can start within five days of sign-off.
Best for: brands that want the fix as well as the finding. We also run POSM deployment, store maintenance and field sales teams, so a failed store goes to a team that can put it right, and the next visit checks that it did.
2. FloorWalk
FloorWalk is a Gurugram-based mystery audit and research firm. It lists mystery shopping, consumer insights, market research and retail audits, and its mystery shopping programmes cover visual merchandising audits, customer experience audits, retailer recommendation programmes and competition benchmarking. Shoppers use its Android and iOS apps, photos are stamped with GPS address, date and time, and reports reach a brand dashboard or come as PDF and Excel.
Best for: repeat customer experience audits in retail, automotive, banking, healthcare and real estate. Limitation: its services stop at audits and research, so fixing what an audit finds is a job for another vendor or your own team.
3. TopHawks
TopHawks calls itself a mystery shopping and retail audit company, headquartered in Noida. Its audit menu goes beyond mystery visits: retail operations audits, stock audits, price checks against SRP and MOP, store staff audits and e-commerce seller audits. Auditors use an in-house app that captures photos, geolocation, time stamps and answers, and weighted scoring turns each visit into a store-level score. It also sells sales outsourcing, staffing and visual merchandising.
Best for: brands that want price, stock and staff checks run with their mystery visits. Limitation: its service and contact pages give no start time or turnaround for an audit.
4. CTRL Service
CTRL Service is a mystery shopping and audit company that started in Russia and now has Indian offices in Gurugram, Bengaluru and Mumbai. It runs mystery shopper research, SOP checks, outlet evaluation audits, visual merchandise audits and marketing activity audits, plus telephone and web enquiry audits and audits of promoters and merchandisers.
Best for: SOP and promoter checks across retail, healthcare, automotive, banking and hospitality. Limitation: its site names no reporting app, dashboard or start time.
5. HS Brands
HS Brands is a global mystery shopping group, and its India arm works from an office in Bangalore. It covers store visits, online journeys, phone calls and emails, and in retail it checks pricing, promotions, planograms, service speed and cash handling. Shoppers capture time-stamped photos, video or audio and submit their survey through the SASSIE platform, where editors and an AI check review it.
Best for: brands that run one programme across several countries. Limitation: its services are research (benchmarking, customer experience, market intelligence), with no field execution to act on the results.
6. BARE International
BARE International is a global customer experience research firm. Its services are mystery shopping, pricing intelligence, customer experience intelligence, self-audits, customer feedback, fieldwork support and online reputation management.
Best for: multi-country customer experience programmes. Limitation: its homepage gives its reach as a count of countries and names no Indian city or office.
7. Ipsos
Ipsos is a global market research group with an Indian business, and mystery shopping is one of its many research services.
Best for: mystery shopping that feeds a wider research study run by the same agency. Limitation: the pages we read don't say how visits are proved or how fast a programme starts.
8. Market Xcel
Market Xcel is a market research company based in New Delhi, with offices in the US and Singapore. Retail audits, mystery audits, display audits and price benchmarking sit in its list of research offerings, next to shopper insights and data collection.
Best for: brands buying audits as one input to a research programme. Limitation: its site doesn't say how audit visits are recorded or proved.
9. Netrika
Netrika is a risk, security and forensics firm. Mystery shopping sits under its forensic investigations work, one of eight areas it serves, and its shoppers check infrastructure, product and service quality and process conformity in stores, cafes and bank branches.
Best for: integrity and fraud checks for a company already using Netrika for investigations. Limitation: mystery audit is one service in a risk business, and the page names no app, dashboard or start time.
What Should You Ask a Mystery Shopping Company Before You Sign?
Send every shortlisted company your store list and ask the same five things.
- Which of my stores can you reach, and from where? A national number means little if your stores are in tier 3 towns. Ask for evaluator counts in your districts, and for how far an evaluator travels to a store.
- What does one visit record hold? Ask for a sample: the answers, the photos, a geo-tag and time stamp, and audio where the scenario is a conversation. A score with no proof behind it is hard to act on and easy for a store manager to dispute.
- Who reviews a report before I see it? Ask whether every submission is checked or only a sample, and what happens to a visit that fails the check.
- How soon can the first visits happen? Ask for a date from sign-off, with the questionnaire and evaluator briefing included.
- What happens after the report? Ask who acts on a failed store and when the store is checked again. If the answer is "your team", count the people that will take.

Is a Mystery Audit the Same as a Retail Audit?
Not quite, though most companies above sell both. In a mystery audit the evaluator poses as a customer, so the store doesn't know it's being checked. It tests the experience: the greeting, the product knowledge, the pitch and the billing. A retail audit is often declared. The auditor checks what's in the store: stock, prices, planogram, displays, POSM and the condition of fixtures. Brands that sell through retail usually need both. A store can look right and still sell badly, or sell well with half its displays missing. Our guide to mystery shopping best practices covers how to design the scenarios.
How Do You Become a Mystery Shopper in India?
Register with a mystery shopping company as an evaluator, then take the visits it offers near you. Ipsos, for one, recruits shoppers through iShopForIpsos, a global site where India is one of the countries to choose.
Conclusion
A mystery shopping report is worth what changes in the store after it. Shortlist on three things: whether the company reaches your stores, how it proves each visit, and who fixes the stores that fail and checks them again.
